The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has urged landlords never to require a deposit or top-up payment from NSFAS-funded students.
This arrives following NSFAS gained reports about some accommodation vendors who demand NSFAS-funded students to pay a deposit or top-up payment so as to get entry to the accredited private accommodation.

"NSFAS reminds accommodation vendors with the obligatory conditions, as furnished by the Standardised Fixed-Term Lease Arrangement amongst the private accommodation companies and NSFAS funded students," NSFAS mentioned in a press release on Thursday.

The NSFAS conditions and terms for private accommodation providers’ participation on the student accommodation portal also states that: "Where the NSFAS-funded student is defunded because of an incorrect decision by NSFAS, the coed won't be answerable for payment of any arrear rent to your accommodation company, up right until the date of being defunded."
NSFAS described that where the NSFAS-funded student chooses to carry on occupying the leased premises, notwithstanding getting defunded by NSFAS, here the scholar is going to be liable for payment of lease towards the lessor with the date of remaining defunded.

The scheme emphasised that any dispute arising between the parties regarding the interpretation or implementation of the agreement, website must be dealt with in accordance with any dispute resolution procedure determined by NSFAS for this purpose.
